  • If damage is found on my roof, does it automatically mean I have a claim?
Not necessarily, any damage, weather related or other needs to be connected to a date of loss (DOL). Which would be the date of the event that caused damage. You must file a claim within one year from the DOL.
  • Why don’t roofers use black felt paper anymore?
Traditional felt paper has been replaced with “Synthetic felt”. Synthetic felt is a waterproof woven material that is installed the same way as traditional felt. It is much better than traditional felt at resisting tear and breakdown due to constant heat exposure. It is also much lighter, resulting in a material that is easier to install and that leaves less weight sitting on top of your house.
  • How long will a shingle roof last in Florida?
Fifteen years is considered a usable life span in Florida and is a good rule of thumb. If shaded or if exposed to a lower than average amount of severe tropical storms, many roofs will end up lasting longer.
  • Should I pressure wash my roof if it is dirty or moldy?
No, definitely not. High pressure will damage the shingles by removing the granules that protect it from the sun. Shingle roofs should be cleaned with a soft wash process using chemicals and water. We offer a soft wash process to clean your roof!
  • Why don't flatter roofs have traditional shingles?
Roofs that are less than a 3:12 pitch are not allowed to use traditional shingles. Modified Bitumen roofing or metal is used for residential applications. Modified Bitumen is also known as roll roofing. It is a 42” wide asphalt shingle material, that is either self-adhering or is installed with roofing cement. Some applications call for a torch to be used to super heat the cement.
  • What does a 4:12 roof pitch mean?
This means for every 12” inches of roof going from top to bottom the roof drops 4” inches.
  • How often should I inspect my roof for damage?
Roofs should be inspected yearly, especially any roof over five years old. That is when you will start to see wear and tear. We will inspect your roof for free. If we find anything we take pictures of the issue and will give you options to correct it. Usually, we can do the inspection from the ground using one of our drones.
  • What is the difference between standing seam metal roofs and 5V metal roofs?
Standing seam roofs interlock on one side allowing them to cover the fasteners so that they are not seen. 5V is screwed down from the top leaving the roof fasteners visible.
  • Are there additional underlayments used today that aren't synthetic or traditional felt?
Yes, in addition to synthetic felt, there is self-adhering underlayment also called peel and stick underlayment. Synthetic felt installs and functions just like traditional felt. It is nailed down with plastic cap nails with an 18” overlap. Self-adhering underlayment is rolled directly onto the roof decking, where it sticks. It is self-sealing, meaning it seals around each nail that is shot through it.
  • Can a roof replacement be financed?
Yes, we offer multiple options for financing.
